Introduction
Welcome to "Pawmi", an AI-powered dog-walk tracker developed and operated by an independent remote team of individuals working from different countries (the "Pawmi team", "we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal data when you use:
- the Pawmi mobile applications on iOS and Android (the "App");
- the Pawmi website and web dashboard at pawmi.app (the "Website"); and
- any related support channels and services (together with the App and Website, the "Services").
For data-protection laws in the EU/EEA, UK and similar jurisdictions, the Pawmi team acts as the data controller (the group that decides how and why your personal data is used). You can contact us at [email protected] about any privacy question or to exercise your rights.
Scope and legal framework
We design Pawmi to comply with:
- EU and UK data-protection law (GDPR / UK GDPR).
- US state consumer-privacy laws where applicable (for example, California's CCPA/CPRA, and comparable laws in other states).
- Other local privacy laws that apply where our users are located.

Information we collect automatically
When you use the App we automatically collect:
1. Device and app usage data
- Device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone
- App features used, buttons tapped, screens visited, in-app events

- Route, distance, speed and duration (and elevation where available)
- Steps and motion/activity data from your device sensors where available.
3. Notification and device identifiers
- Push notification token supplied by Apple/Google (so we can send you walk and goal reminders)
- Internal identifiers we assign to your account and device, and per-device session identifiers.
4. Advertising identifiers (free version only)
- Where you permit it, advertising identifiers (such as the Apple IDFA or Google Advertising ID) and related signals used to deliver and measure ads. See "Advertising" below.
5. Derived product signals
- Signals such as app inactivity or uninstall, derived from routine app health checks, which we use in aggregated form for product analytics.
6. Cookies and similar technologies on our Website
- If you visit any Pawmi website, we may use cookies or similar technologies for core functionality, analytics and (if enabled) marketing. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies.
Information from third parties
We may receive limited personal data from:
- Social login providers (Apple, Google): a unique ID, your name and email address (if you allow sharing).
- App stores and our subscription provider (Apple App Store, Google Play, RevenueCat): your subscription/purchase status and related transaction data.
- Analytics, crash-reporting and advertising tools (for example, Sentry and Google AdMob): aggregated usage statistics, diagnostics, and ad-performance data.
- Map and weather providers (for example Google and OpenStreetMap-based map services, and weather data providers): map tiles, related diagnostics, and weather for your area.
- Strava (only if you connect it): a connection token and basic athlete identifiers so we can sync your completed walks to Strava at your request.
Data Usage
Where GDPR / UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
1. To provide and operate Pawmi (contract)
- Create and manage your account; let you add pet profiles, log pet health, and track walks (including background location while a walk is active)
- Display maps, statistics and history
- Enable family sharing, professional walker/sitter features, and the social features you choose to use
- Provide customer support.
2. To personalise the Services (contract / legitimate interests)
- Calculate a personalised daily activity goal for your pet and convert human steps to estimated dog steps, based on the breed, age, weight and health information you provide
- Analyse walk history and patterns to generate insights, weekly recaps and reminders. See "Automated processing and personalisation".
3. To improve the App and keep it secure (legitimate interests)
- Monitor performance and crashes; analyse how features are used to decide what to build next
- Prevent fraud, abuse or misuse, including validating walks against automated abuse checks and securing accounts.
4. To send you notifications and communications
- Service notifications (walk reminders, goal updates, security alerts) are necessary for the service or for our legitimate interests
- Optional marketing emails or in-app messages are based on your consent where law requires it, and you can opt out at any time.
5. To show ads in the free version (legitimate interests and/or consent)
- We may show ads in the free tier. Personalised advertising relies on your consent in regions where consent is required, and otherwise on the ability to opt out. See "Advertising".
6. To comply with legal obligations
- Keeping basic records for accounting, tax or responding to lawful requests from authorities.
7. With your consent
- Access to precise location and motion sensors where not strictly necessary
- Personalised advertising and non-essential analytics in regions that require consent
- Any processing that qualifies as "tracking" under Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) or similar rules in your jurisdiction.
You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings or inside the App (where available). This does not affect processing already carried out.
Automated processing and personalisation
Pawmi uses automated methods to:
- calculate a personalised daily activity goal for each pet from the breed, age, weight and health attributes you provide;
- estimate your pet's steps from your device's step count; and
- analyse your walk history and patterns to produce insights, weekly recaps, and reminders (our "AI" features).
These features support the Services and do not produce legal or similarly significant effects on you. Where this involves profiling under GDPR/UK GDPR, our legal basis is performance of our contract with you and/or our legitimate interest in providing useful features. You can object to this processing or ask us about it (see "Your rights").
Advertising
In the free version of the App we show ads using Google AdMob.
- Personalised ads. Google AdMob may serve personalized ads using advertising identifiers and other signals that Google collects. Where personalisation applies, Google and its advertising partners process those identifiers to select and measure ads.
- Consent (EEA/UK and similar regions). In regions that require it, we present a consent prompt through a Google-certified consent management platform before personalised ads or non-essential tracking are enabled, and you can change your choice later. On iOS we also use Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- Your controls. You can opt out of personalised ads (and request non-personalised ads) through your device settings (for example, by resetting or limiting your advertising identifier), the in-app consent controls, and our "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" mechanism described below.
- Location. We do not use your precise GPS walk data to target ads.
How we share personal data
We may share personal data with:
1. Other users – through the social, family and sharing features
- In-app feed: walks you set to "public" (for example, walk name, statistics, a map snippet, photos, and your pet's name and photo) are visible to other users, who may give kudos and comments.
- Leaderboards: if you participate, your display name, pet and ranking statistics may appear on global, breed and family leaderboards.
- Family / household: people in your family can view and, depending on their role, manage shared pets and walks.
- Walkers and sitters: a professional walker or sitter you grant access to receive the pet and walk information needed to perform and report the service (for example, walk routes and reports). Sitters have limited (read-only) access to health information.
- Shared links and external apps: content you choose to share (for example, a walk, an achievement, or an invitation) via links or your device's share sheet.
You control walk visibility (private / family / public) and can disable map or photo display in your settings.
2. Strava (only if you connect it) – we send your completed walks to Strava at your request. You can disconnect at any time.
3. Advertising partners (free tier) – as described in "Advertising".
4. Service providers
Carefully selected companies that process data on our behalf, such as:
- Cloud hosting and database providers
- Media/file storage (S3-compatible storage)
- Authentication, crash-reporting and diagnostics tools (for example, Firebase and Sentry)
- Subscription management (RevenueCat)
- Push and notification delivery (for example, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Apple Push Notification service)
- Map and weather providers (your approximate or walk location may be shared to render maps and provide local weather)
- Advertising (Google AdMob)
- Customer-support and communication tools (messages you send us as feedback may be processed through these tools).
5. Corporate transactions – in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of our app or related assets. Where possible, we will notify you and ensure the recipient respects this Policy.
6. Legal and law-enforcement requests – when required by law, court order or competent authority, or to protect our rights, users or others.
International transfers
Our servers and some of our service providers may be located outside your country (including outside the EU/EEA and UK). When we transfer personal data internationally, we use legal safeguards such as adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses. You can contact us for more details.
Data retention
Your personal data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) between the App and our servers, and we perform regular backups to protect it.
We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes described above:
- Account, pet profile and health data – for the lifetime of your account. When you request deletion, we schedule the erasure and complete it after a short grace/recovery period (around 30 days), after which active data is deleted or anonymised. Residual copies in backups are overwritten within approximately 3 months.
- Walk and activity data – while your account is active or until you delete the specific walk or route.
- Analytics and logs – usually up to 3 months, in aggregated form where possible.
- Security and administrative audit logs – up to 12 months.
- Short-lived records – invitations expire within days, and sign-in (OTP) codes are stored only briefly.
- Support communications – for as long as needed to resolve your request and comply with legal obligations.
Where possible we store data in a way that no longer identifies you (aggregated or anonymised statistics) rather than deleting it outright. We may use anonymised or aggregated data derived from User Content for analytics and to describe how our Services are used.
You can delete your data or account from the profile screen. When you do this, we delete or anonymise active copies of your data after the grace period above; some data may remain in backups for up to 3 months, after which it is automatically overwritten.
Your rights
Your rights depend on where you live. We respect rights granted by GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and other applicable laws.
EU / EEA and UK residents
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data and receive a copy.
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten"), in certain circumstances.
- Restrict processing in certain situations.
- Data portability – receive data you provided in a structured, commonly used format and have it transmitted to another controller.
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests, including profiling, and to direct marketing.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
You can exercise many of these rights directly in the App (profile / settings / delete account). You can also contact us at [email protected].
California and other US state residents
Depending on your state, you may have rights to:
- Know whether we process your personal information and access specific pieces of information.
- Request deletion or correction of personal information.
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, or of targeted advertising, if we engage in these practices.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information.
We treat precise geolocation as sensitive personal information. We use it to provide the walk-tracking service.
We do not sell your personal information for money. To the extent our use of advertising identifiers for personalised ads in the free tier is considered a "sale", "sharing", or "targeted advertising" under your state's law, you can opt out through our "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" control, the in-app consent controls, or your device's advertising settings.
You may exercise your rights by contacting us at [email protected] and specifying that you are making a request under your state privacy law.
Other regions
Where your local law grants you additional rights, we will honour them. Contact us if you have questions about your specific jurisdiction.
Permissions, cookies and tracking
Mobile permissions
The App may request access to:
- Location (including background) – to track walks and show routes on the map, including while a walk is active and the App is in the background.
- Motion and fitness data – to count steps or estimate activity.
- Photos / camera – if you upload a pet photo or capture walk photos.
- Notifications – to send reminders and updates.
You can enable or disable these permissions at any time in your device settings. Some features may not work without them. In regions where consent is required for certain purposes (for example, analytics or advertising, including ATT on iOS), we will additionally ask for your consent inside the App.
Cookies and similar technologies
On our Website, we may use:
- Strictly necessary cookies (for security and core functionality)
- Analytics cookies (to understand how visitors use the site)
- Marketing cookies (if we run campaigns).
Where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies.
Security
We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data, including:
- Encryption of personal data in transit using HTTPS/TLS
- Access controls and authentication for internal systems
- Regular backups and monitoring
- Limiting access to personal data to team members and service providers who need it.
No system can be 100% secure, but we work to minimise risks and follow industry best practices.
Children's privacy
Pawmi is designed for use by adults. It is not intended for children under 16 in the EU/EEA or UK, or under 13 in other regions.
We do not knowingly allow these children to create their own accounts or provide personal data directly to us. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child who is not allowed to have their own account under local law, we will delete it or anonymise it as soon as reasonably possible. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at [email protected].
Third-party links and services
Our Services may contain links to third-party websites or integrations with third-party services (for example, map providers, app stores, login providers, Strava, and advertising providers). Those services are governed by their own privacy policies, not this one, and we are not responsible for them.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in:
- our Services
- the technologies we use
- applicable law.
When we make material changes, we will notify you by:
- updating the "Last updated" date;
- showing an in-app notice or push notification; and/or
- posting a notice on our website.
If required by law, we will ask for your consent to significant changes.
